There are many different types of engines for go carts. The first and most common is the simple 4 stroke engine. A simple 4 stroke is just a single piston engine that uses regular unleaded fuel. A 4 stroke engine is usually measured in horse power. They range in size from 3.5 horsepower to 13 horsepower for single piston there are 2 piston simple engines as well and they go on up in horse power. The second is a 2 stroke engine which is more powerful for the size and is measured in cc or cubic centimeters. The 2 stroke engine runs off a mixture of 2 stroke oil and unleaded gas. This is like a cross between unleaded and diesel giving it a good mixture of Horsepower and RPMs.
