Go Cart Axle Types

Four Wheel Drive - The ideal axle for The Extreme Off Road Go Cart is a rear differential and front drive axle with C.V. joints “this allows steering”. This requires a transmission and transfer case.

Fixed Axle - The most simple is the fixed axle which only allows one wheel drive. The bearings are located in the wheels and one wheel “usually the back left” has a sprocket on it making it the drive wheel.

Live Axle – A live axle is a solid axle with the bearings fixed to the frame and the wheels are fixed to the solid axle. This makes the rear pose “meaning both wheels spin at the same speed. This can be a problem on the road. Taking turns at higher speeds will cause the back wheels to hop. This is the next best thing to a transmission for Extreme off road go carts.
